Calfee Insurance Coverage Partners Matthew A. Chiricosta and K. James Sullivan led the legal team for Sterigenics U.S., LLC, a Sotera Health company (NASDAQ: SHC) in securing a favorable judgment in an insurance coverage lawsuit against National Union Fire Insurance Company of Pittsburgh, PA., a unit of AIG, in Illinois federal court.
In a 29-page ruling issued on August 3, 2022, U.S. District Judge Mary M. Rowland granted Sterigenics’ Motion for Judgment on the Pleadings and denied National Union’s Cross-Motion for Judgment on the Pleadings. Judge Rowland held that National Union is obligated under two general liability insurance policies it issued in the 1980s to pay Sterigenics’ defense costs incurred in connection with hundreds of tort lawsuits pending in Illinois state court.
Calfee Associates Sage Wen and Aaren R. Host were key members of the Insurance Coverage team for Sterigenics.
