Overview
Brad engages with clients to solve their complex intellectual property and technology-related needs, from the conception of an idea to the defense and enforcement of IP assets.
Brad is a registered patent attorney, having drafted and prosecuted hundreds of patent applications in numerous technology areas, including artificial intelligence and machine learning, financial services, telecommunication, computer networking, digital streaming, electronic health records technology, digital display, cybersecurity, augmented reality/virtual reality, blockchain/web3, mobile applications, and medical devices, among many others. Recognizing the rapid advancement of emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, Brad regularly counsels clients on how to develop, grow, and protect their IP portfolio in a forward-thinking way.
Brad also has significant experience enforcing and defending patented technology and other protected IP before federal district courts, the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC), and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
Leveraging his years of IT experience and IP expertise, Brad also advises clients with respect to various technology agreements and licenses, data privacy, and cybersecurity concerns.
Brad serves on the firm's Associates Committee. He is also an active participant in the local legal community through his involvement with the Cleveland Intellectual Property Law Association.
Brad graduated from Case Western Reserve University School of Law in 2015 and earned his B.S.E. in Computer Engineering from Case Western Reserve University in 2012.
He worked as an Associate in a boutique IP firm prior to joining Calfee in 2017.

- Representing a publicly traded, Fortune 50 American multinational technology company for nearly 20 years, we have prepared and prosecuted several hundred patent applications, primarily for its Research division with a focus on artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies. Several applications prepared or prosecuted by Calfee’s team have been asserted in courts across the globe and/or have been subject to licensing agreements.
- Representing a subsidiary of a publicly traded, Fortune 50 company since 2018, helping to develop the client’s domestic and foreign patent portfolio. We handle the preparation and prosecution of hundreds of the client’s domestic and foreign patent assets covering complex and fast-changing technologies. We have been entrusted to provide patent portfolio development, strategy, and management services for the client as they continue to build their portfolio in a new technology space.
