Associate Attorney Maureen T. Pavicic, with Calfee's Estate and Succession Planning and Administration practice group, presented at the September 2024 Pliskin Advanced Estate Planning Seminar. Her subsequent article, "Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) and Drafting Considerations in Estate Planning," was published recently in the Probate Law Journal of Ohio's November/December 2024 edition.
Maureen explains that Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) is becoming a common family planning concept and includes all fertility treatments involving eggs or embryos, such as in vitro fertilization (IVF), surrogacy, and/or the freezing of eggs or embryos for future use. Under Ohio law, there are implications to be mindful of when developing estate planning instruments that may include future heirs born utilizing ART.
