Tae Andrews

Tae’s practice focuses on advising corporate policyholders on insurance coverage issues arising under commercial general liability, directors and officers, professional liability/errors and omissions, excess, umbrella, and other types of policies. He has a track record of delivering successful results for clients with D&O, E&O, Property and General Liability Insurance claims.

Prior to joining Calfee as Senior Counsel in 2024, Tae served as Counsel with a premier insurance recovery boutique law firm in the U.S. focused on helping commercial policyholders reduce and transfer risk.

Prior to earning his J.D. from The University of Michigan Law School, Tae taught history with Teach for America in the Bronx, New York.

Experience

The following experience was gained at former law firms:

• Persuaded insurer to reverse its coverage denial and fund settlement of an underlying personal injury suit brought against a plastic surgery center.
• Persuaded excess EPL insurer to reverse its coverage denial and provide defense coverage for underlying discrimination claim.
• Cas. Co. v. Andrew Smith Co., No. 1:22-cv-03615 (S.D.N.Y. Aug. 15, 2022), won stay of insurer’s declaratory judgment suit pending resolution of underlying litigation arising out of alleged e. coli contamination.
• Secured a multi-million-dollar settlement in mediation for a client seeking coverage for costs associated with a False Claims Act investigation from the Department of Justice.
• Recovered defense costs for a client seeking coverage for costs incurred defending against a lawsuit brought under the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA).
• Negotiated recovery of hundreds of thousands of dollars for losses due to Hurricane Harvey by persuading insurer to reverse initial denial of coverage.
• Secured a half-million-dollar settlement at mediation by persuading insurers that corporate aircraft policy potentially covered diminution in value after accident at airport.
