Overview
Ryan works closely with lawyers in Calfee’s M&A, Private Equity, Capital Markets and Public Reporting, and Corporate and Finance practices in connection with intellectual property matters related to mergers and acquisitions and other types of transactions.
He assists in preparing and prosecuting U.S. and foreign utility and design patent applications for publicly and privately-held businesses, institutional clients and individuals. Ryan also assists clients in matters of licensing, trade secrets, patent infringement and patent validity concerns.
Ryan works closely with clients to prepare and prosecute U.S. trademark applications and to oversee the prosecution of foreign trademark applications. He assists clients in the administration and maintenance of large trademark portfolios including U.S. and foreign trademark registrations. Ryan also counsels clients on the selection, clearance, maintenance, licensing, enforcement and use of their trademarks. He has represented many clients in proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.
Ryan also assists clients in matters relating to computer software, e-commerce and business development on the Internet, including software and hosting services procurement agreements, licensing, software development, cloud computing and SaaS subscriptions, service level agreements, other web-based agreements and dispute resolution involving domain names.
He joined Calfee in 2003 and became a partner in 2012.
