Overview

With an education and professional background rooted in patent law and the fields of biotechnology, biochemistry, and chemical engineering, Meredith provides a high level of expertise to a diverse range of clients.

Meredith’s work experience includes patent application preparation, patent prosecution, freedom-to-operate opinions, patentability analyses, patent portfolio management, USPTO appeal proceedings, and due diligence for inventions related to biotechnology, chemical engineering, biomedical devices, biochemistry, mechanical engineering, food science, and software. She has represented individual inventors, start-up companies, universities, and international corporations, including extensive experience with a start-up client in the immunotherapeutics and bioinformatics field.

Prior to joining Calfee in 2024, Meredith worked at a boutique IP law firm in Dayton, Ohio and a general practice law firm in Cincinnati, Ohio as an Associate Patent Attorney. While in law school, Meredith was a Registered Patent Agent and worked as a Patent Law Clerk.

Meredith earned her J.D. from Fordham University School of Law. As a law student, she held roles as a staff member of the Intellectual Property Law Journal and the President of the Farm to Fordham service group. Meredith also served as a Patent Agent in the Samuelson-Glushko Intellectual Property and Information Law Clinic and as a Research Assistant in the field of patent law. Meredith was awarded the Student Leadership Award, Archibald R. Murray Public Service Award, and a Merit Scholarship.

Prior to her legal career, Meredith served as an HHMI Research Technician at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. There, Meredith investigated the mTOR signaling pathway using enzyme assays, X-ray crystallography, and electron microscopy. Her work was published in the scientific journals Nature and Cell Reports.

Meredith has served as the President of the South Ohio section of the Society of Women Engineers since 2021. She has presented at a regional SWE conference and will be presenting at the global SWE conference in October 2024 about how inventors can advocate for their inventions to obtain a patent. She has also done educational presentations for children about intellectual property, inventions, and patent law.

Meredith earned her M.S. in Biotechnology from John Hopkins University, where she focused her studies on bioinformatics, nanobiotechnology, epigenetics, stem cell biology, and neurobiology.

Meredith graduated from Case Western Reserve University with a B.S. in Biochemistry. Her education focused on atomic-level science, including coursework in chemical structure determination, quantum physics, and molecular biology. Meredith also conducted structural biology research in two different labs during her time at CWRU. She was awarded the President’s Scholarship and studied abroad in Paris, France.
