As Vice Chairman, Mitch helps to manage and support many of the Firm’s most significant clients. He helps to oversee major projects so as to ensure that all appropriate resources are dedicated to addressing the client’s needs and to provide clear communication and reporting. He also is helping lead the Firm’s efforts in developing new and expanded client relationships.
Particularly successful in defending clients before juries, Mitch has won cases in federal and state courts on behalf of plaintiffs and defendants involving business disputes, including class and derivative action defense and SEC FCPA and accounting-based enforcement actions. Mitch has a track record of successfully representing corporations and individuals in high-stakes litigation. Mitch represented one of the nation’s largest utilities in a multimillion-dollar breach of contract dispute, achieving a settlement worth $200 million to the client. Recently, Mitch led a trial team that obtained a multimillion-dollar judgment for an international tire company. Mitch has extensive experience representing directors of some of the region's largest companies in shareholder derivative litigation.
Mitch has an AV preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell and is listed in Cleveland’s Top Rated Lawyers Guide. He is included and ranked in editions of Chambers USA, The Best Lawyers in America©, Benchmark Litigation and "Ohio Super Lawyers".

Active outside of the courtroom, Mitch has addressed the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association Securities Law Institute, Glasser Legal Works SEC Hot Topics Institute, the Annual SEC Issues Update Seminar on enforcement topics and has spoken before numerous groups on jury trial techniques. He also has presented to the Association of Corporate Counsel and the PricewaterhouseCoopers Leadership Forum on defending class actions, corporate governance and compliance. He is a Life Member of the Eighth District Judicial Conference. He is the Immediate Past President of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Foundation, past president of the board of trustees of Great Lakes Theater, past president of the Greater Cleveland Council, Boy Scouts of America, and is a member of Leadership Cleveland, the National Eagle Scout Association and Bluecoats, Inc.
Mitch joined Calfee in 1982, becoming a partner in 1990, a member of the Executive Committee in 2003, and a member of the Management Committee in 2009.
