Team Trump Heads to Cleveland
With both Sen. Ted Cruz and Gov. John Kasich out of the presidential race following Donald Trump’s Indiana primary win, Trump is now the presumed Republican Party nominee. This means Team Trump will play a pivotal role in how the RNC Convention plays out in Cleveland in July now that a contested convention scenario is replaced with the more traditional convention playbook. Historically, the GOP nominee plays a significant role in convention programming. "The convention staff will begin working with the Trump campaign to bring them up to speed on the months of planning that's been happening in Cleveland so we can unite and make the convention a success for the Republican Party and nominee," Kirsten Kukowski, spokeswoman for the Republican National Committee's convention-planning arm, said in a statement Wednesday morning (Source: The Plain Dealer).
Ohio Delegation Secures Downtown Hotel
The Ohio Republican Party has been assigned to stay at the DoubleTree by Hilton during the convention, a strategic location for the host state’s delegation. The DoubleTree, at East 12th and Lakeside, is about 10 blocks away, or about a 20 minute walk, from Quicken Loans Arena. “We’re excited about it. We wanted to be downtown," Ohio GOP Chairman, Matt Borges told WKYC.
