“Green +” Certification
The Calfee Building is awarded “Green +” certification through 2018 from the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association for its energy savings, recycling and sustainability practices. “Green +” is the highest certification awarded by the Bar Association’s Green Initiative Committee.

Client Service All-Star
Al Lucas, a senior litigation partner in Calfee’s Columbus office, has been named a Client Service All-Star in 2012 and 2014 by The BTI Consulting Group Inc. Tom McKee, chairman of Calfee, was honored in 2008 as part of an exclusive group of 148 attorneys nationwide to be named “Client Service All-Stars.” The BTI Consulting Group, Inc., a national strategic market research firm located in Wellesley, MA, interviewed corporate counsel of Fortune 1000 companies across the country on all aspects of client relationships. Unprompted with firm or individual names, Tom was honored among the select few who truly stand out and deliver “the absolute best client service.”
Top 10 Percent for Client Service (BTI Consulting Group)
Calfee is again ranked among the top law firms serving large companies in the 2017 BTI Client Service study among the 650 firms from across the nation. The survey by the national consulting group BTI ranks law firms on client service performance, based on direct feedback from corporate counsel.
Client Service A-Team (BTI Consulting Group)
Calfee is included in BTI’s annual “Client Service A-Team” which recognizes law firms with excellent client service. The only way for a firm to be included in this national ranking is to be recognized, by name and unprompted, by one or more of its clients as providing outstanding client service.
"Most Feared" Litigation Firm (BTI Consulting Group)
In 2013 and 2014, recent surveys by BTI Consulting Group recognized Calfee as one of the most-feared litigation firms in the United States. BTI conducted more than 300 one-on-one telephone interviews with general counsels and heads of litigation at large corporations. Calfee is among the 75 firms included on the “Honor Roll of Most Feared Litigation Firms 2014.”
Seven Calfee attorneys have been singled out for recognition as “Local Litigation Stars” in the 2016 edition of Benchmark Litigation, an independent guide to America’s leading litigation firms and attorneys. In addition, the firm’s Litigation practice overall was profiled in the “Recommended Firms” listing, one of only 18 firms in Ohio to have its litigation practice recognized.
Top 25 Law Firms in Real Estate (Midwest Real Estate News)
Calfee was named as one of the “Top 25 Law Firms in Real Estate” in Midwest Real Estate News magazine’s “2014 Best of the Best” issue. The rankings are based on law firm surveys regarding number, size and type of real estate transactions completed during the previous year. Calfee’s Real Estate group has appeared on this list multiple times.
Several of Calfee’s attorneys and administrators have been profiled in Kaleidoscope magazine’s annual “Forty-Forty” issue that recognizs 40 young African-American achievers for their contribution in their careers and communities.
Women of Note (Crain's Cleveland Business)
Calfee partner Teresa Metcalf Beasley has been chosen as a 2014 Woman of Note by Crain’s Cleveland. This award recognizes women who not only are leaders at their companies and organizations, but who have risen above adversity and have demonstrated courage and perseverance along the way. Nominations are submitted online and include information about the nominees’ personal and professional involvement in civic, charitable and/or professional activities. Each year, only 15 women are honored with this award.
Women of Achievement (YWCA)
Calfee partners Teresa Metcalf Beasley and Virginia Benjamin were honored with the “Women of Achievement” award. Recipients of this award must demonstrate professional excellence, community involvement, outstanding leadership qualities, be a mentor who has helped other women achieve their goals, and exemplify the YWCA’s mission of eliminating racism and empowering women. Any individual, group or organization can submit nominations for this award.
