Calfee, Halter & Griswold congratulates partner John J. Eklund on his appointment to the Ohio Senate, where he will represent the 18th District.
“We anticipate that John will represent his constituents and the State of Ohio with the same skill and dedication he provides to his clients at Calfee,” said Brent D. Ballard, managing partner. Eklund will continue his work as a partner and chair of the Antitrust and Trade Regulation group.
The 18th District includes all of Geauga and Lake counties and part of Cuyahoga County. The seat was left empty when former State Sen. Tim Grendell was appointed as Geauga County Probate/Juvenile Court judge.
“I’m grateful to my partners for their support, and I am honored by this appointment,” Eklund said. “I am eager to get to work on behalf of the citizens of the 18th District and to engage in the effort of making Ohio great.”
He was chosen by the Senate screening committee from a pool of 13 candidates and was sworn in on Wednesday, November 9, 2011.
Eklund is a member of the Geauga County Republican Party Executive Committee and was a former zoning commission member in Munson Township for 10 years.
Eklund joined Calfee in 1980. He earned his J.D. from Washington and Lee University School of Law and he also holds a B.A. from Union College. He has been named an Ohio Super Lawyer for Antitrust Litigation and is included in The Best Lawyers in America for Antitrust Law.
John has served on the boards of the Geauga County YMCA and the Chagrin River Land Conservancy.
