Jim counsels high net worth clients in the areas of estate planning, probate and trust administration, taxation, wealth transfers, business succession planning, business planning, entity selection for new and existing businesses, preparation of corporate organizational documents and general corporate law.

He also has experience counseling clients with respect to the formation and representation of private foundations, public charities and other nonprofit entities.

Jim served as an intern to Member of Parliament of the United Kingdom Nicholas B. Harvey. During his time on Mr. Harvey’s staff, Mr. Harvey served as the party’s Secretary of State for Health.

Jim is also the Adjunct Professor of Estate Planning at the University of Cincinnati School of Law and was named to Cincinnati Business Courier’s “Forty Under 40” Class of 2012.

Jim has been named as “Rising Star” in Ohio by Super Lawyers in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014. He is a 2012 recipient of the Ohio Bar Association’s Community Service Award for Attorneys 40 and Under.

He is a member of the Cincinnati Bar Association, Ohio State Bar Association, Federal Bar Association and American Bar Association and the Cincinnati Estate Planning Council.

Active in the community, Jim serves on the Board of the Aubrey Rose Foundation. He served as General Counsel for the Indian Hill Club, where he also served as Treasurer from 2005 through 2008. He was a member of the Board of Trustees for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, where he served as Chairman of the MS150, and General Counsel for the Patients of The Heartland Homecare Hospice. He is a member of the Board of Governors and Treasurer for The University Club.

He served as Mariemont High School Alumni Association President from 2007 through 2012 and has been General Counsel and President of the Catawba House Condominium Association since 2007, as well as General Counsel and Secretary for the Mt. Adams Hillside House Condominium Association since 2005.

Jim is a member of the Mt. Adams Civic Association and has served on the Boards of the Down Syndrome Association of Greater Cincinnati, the Mariemont School Foundation and the Family Service of Cincinnati.

Jim joined Calfee as a partner in 2014.
