Billy C. Raulerson Partner

Billy is a partner in Calfee’s intellectual property practice group and a member of the firm’s executive committee.  His practice focuses on all aspects of intellectual property law.  He is experienced in patent litigation and counsels both large and small clients on procuring and enforcing intellectual property rights in the U.S. and abroad.  He has worked with many Fortune 100 and Fortune 500 companies, and has extensive experience in managing large, global patent portfolios. Billy additionally assists clients in formulating relevant intellectual property strategies including patent protection strategies and trade secret protection strategies. He has experience crafting intellectual property agreements and policies.  He also has experience in performing intellectual property due diligence and audits.

A registered patent attorney since 2002, Billy is proficient in preparing and prosecuting patent applications relating to computer software and the electrical, mechanical, and chemical arts, as well as trademark applications spanning a wide range of goods and services. His experience extends across a diverse collection of technologies, goods, and services.

Billy provides opinions on patentability, clearance/freedom-to-operate, infringement, and invalidity. He has also been involved in several patent disputes, including complex multi-patent, multi-venue litigation.

Billy has authored several articles on intellectual property legal topics. He is also a CLE speaker and has given numerous presentations to various companies and organizations.

A member of the Ohio, D.C., and Columbus Bar Associations, Billy is also active in the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) and the Columbus Intellectual Property Law Association (CIPLA).

He was employed with Sughrue Mion, PLLC prior to joining Calfee in 2005. He became a partner in 2011.
